Are cars allowed on Inishmore?

Inis Mor is one of the 3 Aran Islands located off the west coast of Ireland outside of Galway Bay. There are year around connections with the mainland with two ferry services and also air transport. Please note – it is not possible to bring your car over to the Aran islands, as the ferry services do not allow for this.

Walk, Jog, Hike, or Stroll Inis Mór is very accessible for all levels of walkers. The roads are mostly flat with no steep incline to climb (until you reach the fort, at least!) With such little traffic troubling you along the way, walking is a safe and easy way to traverse the island at your own pace.

The sailing time is approximately 35mins. each way to Inis Mor. There are plenty of things to do on Inis Mor, depending on your arrival time visitors have anywhere from 4-7hrs to cycle and explore the islands famous forts, cliffs, shops and beaches before the ferry departs on its return journey.

We recommend bringing a camera, comfortable shoes, a good rain jacket, sun screen (it's Ireland but you never know!) and a little cash. Some businesses on the island do not accept card or have a minimum-spend policy in place.

Can you swim in The Wormhole on Inis Mór? It is strongly advised not to swim at the Wormhole as there is no easy way out should you get into difficulty.

If one were to do a walked loop of the entire island it would probably take an entire day (roughly 16km ) as the island is 8km long. Walking on the Aran Islands is one of the most popular activities.
