Are dogs allowed on the Legacy Trail?

Spanning from Truckee River Regional Park to Glenshire, the Legacy Trail is paved and runs along the Truckee River. Please keep your dogs on a leash and pick up after them. Bikes allowed.

Both the Legacy Trail and Venetian Waterway Trail are open from sunrise to sunset. There are frequent benches on both trails, and restrooms can be found at trailheads. These are multi-use trails, with bikers, joggers and walkers all sharing the trail.

General Rules of the Trail: (3) Fireworks are not permitted along the Trail. (4) Rules of the road must be adhered to along the Trail. (5) Public access is allowed by pedestrians, bicycles and electric bicycles (“E- bike”) which are generally regulated in the same manner as traditional bicycles.

With the elevation gain, biking from Canmore to Banff is the more difficult direction, especially if there is a wind coming from the west (as there often is). By comparison, riding the bike trail Banff to Canmore is mostly a gentle downhill, making it quite easy, with only a few uphill sections to deal with.

The e-bikes makes the hills to and from Canmore a relative breeze. The ride from Banff to Canmore is 25 kilometres / 31 miles, which takes about 1.5 - 2 hours each way. Typical schedule: 10:15 am - arrive at bike shop and get fitted on e-bikes.
