Are easyJet pulling out of Stansted?

Easyjet has confirmed that it will close its bases at London Stansted, London Southend and Newcastle airports. The airline will cease based operations from August 31, 2020.

As of 2026, easyJet continues to maintain a significant presence at London Stansted Airport (STN), though their operations there have fluctuated over the years. During the restructuring following the 2020 global pandemic, easyJet closed its physical base at Stansted, meaning they no longer stationed aircraft or crew there overnight. However, this did not mean they stopped flying to the airport. They transitioned to a "non-based" model, where flights are operated by aircraft coming from other easyJet bases, such as Belfast, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. While they have significantly fewer routes from Stansted compared to their primary hub at London Luton (LTN) or London Gatwick (LGW), they remain a key competitor to Ryanair at the airport. It is common for airlines to adjust their network based on profitability and slot availability, so while you might see a reduction in certain seasonal routes, easyJet remains a visible and active carrier at Stansted, serving thousands of passengers who prefer their service model over other low-cost competitors in the London area.

Like most other low-cost carriers, easyJet has never flown from Heathrow. The airport is normally Europe's busiest, and with only two runways, congestion is a constant issue. Budget airlines rely on fast turnarounds, with as little as 25 minutes between arrival and departure, which is difficult to achieve at Heathrow.
