Are Jedi allowed to wear black robes?

Many Jedi wore black. For example Master Luminara wore a black robe under a dark brown cloak. Her apprentice Barriss likewise wore mostly black with a dark purple hood. Beyond that there was a lot of variance in Jedi garments from yellow green kimonos to skin tight leather to elaborate plate armor.

In the Star Wars universe, Jedi are generally expected to wear humble, monastic clothing in earth tones like tan, brown, and grey to symbolize their detachment from material possessions and their commitment to the light side. However, wearing black robes is not strictly forbidden by the Jedi Code, though it is often viewed with caution by the Jedi Council because black is traditionally associated with the Sith and the dark side. The most famous example of a Jedi wearing black is Anakin Skywalker, whose choice of dark brown and black synthetic leather robes reflected his inner turmoil and deviation from traditional Jedi norms. In the New Jedi Order era of Legends, Luke Skywalker also famously donned black robes, which signaled a shift toward a more practical and individualistic approach to the Force. While a Jedi might choose black for stealth or personal preference, doing so often invites scrutiny, as the Order believes that one's outward appearance should reflect the inner peace and clarity of a servant of the light.
