Are senior railcards valid in France?

Proof of age is required. France gives seniors age 60 and older the opportunity to purchase a Carte Senior+ for 60 Euros. The Carte Senior+ entitles you to discounts of 25 to 50 percent on train travel. You can also change your train ticket for only 5 Euros; the normal change fee is 15 Euros.

A standard UK Senior Railcard is generally not valid for discounts on domestic French trains operated by SNCF. However, if you are a senior traveler (aged 60+), you can purchase the French equivalent called the Carte Avantage Senior. This card costs approximately €49, is valid for one year, and provides a guaranteed 30% discount on TGV INOUI, INTERCITÉS, and TER journeys within France, as well as capped second-class fares on longer trips. For international travel between the UK and France, Eurostar offers its own dedicated Senior Fares for travelers aged 60 and over, which do not require a specific railcard but do require proof of age at the time of booking. While the UK railcard won't help you once you cross the Channel, these French-specific options ensure that seniors can still navigate the European rail network affordably while enjoying the high-speed rail infrastructure connecting Paris to the rest of the continent.
