As others have said, taxis/Uber are both relatively expensive on island and there are a limited number. If you really don't want to drive - you may want to look at a tour that offers a pickup service. We have used uber on Maui and it was fine. Just like uber anywhere else.

Not sure if others know this but the best thing I liked about Whalers Village was being able to catch the shuttle for $4.00 round trip to Front Street in Lahaina. The pick up is located on the street side right next to the ABC store which is tucked way back in the corner and away from the beach.
