Are they getting rid of Tower of Terror?

Disney is going to turn the Tower of Terror into a normal elevator. The new ride will follow the same path as it currently does. However, instead of unexpected rises and falls, it will just be a normal elevator. Guests will still experience the 5th dimension and travel horizontally in their elevator.



That’s a great question, and it’s one that causes a lot of buzz and confusion. The short answer is: No, Disney is not getting rid of the original The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World, Florida.

However, the story is a bit more nuanced because of what has happened at other Disney parks. Here’s a breakdown:

The Rides That ARE Changing/Gone:

  1. Disney California Adventure (Anaheim, California): The Tower of Terror there was permanently closed in 2017 and was re-themed to Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! This was done to incorporate the popular Marvel franchise into the park.

  2. Disneyland Paris (France): The Tower of Terror there was re-themed in 2019 to become The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror… inspired by Marvel’s Avengers Campus. The exterior and story were changed to fit the new Avengers land, though the ride mechanics are very similar.

  3. Tokyo DisneySea (Japan): This park never had a Tower of Terror. Instead, it has a unique attraction called Tower of Terror that is based on an original story about a fictional explorer, not The Twilight Zone.

The Ride That is STAYING (For Now):

  • Walt Disney World, Florida (Disney’s Hollywood Studios): This is the original and iconic version. As of now, there are no official plans from Disney to change or remove it. It remains one of the most popular and beloved attractions in the entire resort, perfectly fitting the
