Since the security changes following September 11, 2001, passengers are strictly prohibited from entering the cockpit (flight deck) during flight. The reinforced cockpit doors remain locked and bolted from takeoff to landing. However, many airlines and pilots still welcome visitors on the ground, either during boarding or, more commonly, after the plane has landed and reached the gate. If you are interested in seeing the flight deck, the best approach is to politely ask a flight attendant as you are disembarking. If the pilots are not busy with paperwork or preparing for their next leg, they are often happy to let children and aviation enthusiasts take a quick peek or a photo. This is entirely at the discretion of the Captain and the airline's specific policy. In some countries and on certain smaller regional carriers, rules can be even stricter, so it is always best to ask discreetly and respect a "no" if the crew is behind schedule.
