Are you allowed to eat on a train?

Bringing Your Food Aboard You may bring your own food and beverages onboard for consumption at your seat or private Sleeping Car accommodations. However, you can only consume food and beverages purchased in Dining and Lounge Cars in those cars.

If you're traveling in coach on some of Amtrak's long-distance train services, you'll now have the opportunity to use the dining car onboard. Coach passengers will now be able to enjoy full-fledged meals for an additional cost in the dining car, which was a beloved service removed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Which Amtrak trains feature public showers for passengers? All modern Amtrak sleeping cars (Superliners and Viewliners) have showers for passengers. If you choose to have dinner in our dining car, the dress code is casual. Sleeping accommodations on board Amtrak are considered Sleeper Service, which means passengers are entitled to a range of hotel-like amenities.

Carry-on Baggage Starting Nov. 1, 2023, customers will be permitted to bring only one personal item free of charge instead of two personal items. Personal items are up to 25 lbs. and 14 x 11 x 7 inches each.
