Photography is generally encouraged at Disneyland Resort for personal, non-commercial use, and it is famously one of the most photographed locations in the world. Guests are free to take snapshots and videos with their phones and personal DSLR cameras of the landscape, characters, and many attractions. However, there are strict "equipment" rules to maintain safety and guest flow: selfie sticks, handheld extension poles, and large tripods or monopods that do not fit inside a standard backpack or extend over 6 feet (182 cm) are strictly prohibited. Additionally, photography and filming are often restricted on high-speed or dark rides to prevent loose items from falling or to maintain the "show" experience (using a flash on a dark ride is a major etiquette faux pas). For commercial projects, professional filming, or staged photoshoots (like wedding photography), prior written permission and often a significant fee are required. Disney also offers its own "PhotoPass" service, where professional photographers take your picture at iconic spots and link them directly to your account.
