You're entitled to a full refund if your train was cancelled and you couldn't take the next train or decided not to travel. If you didn't use your ticket, you can get a refund without any fees - it doesn't matter what type of ticket you bought.

Refunds: Full refund to original form of payment with no fees if canceled 15 days or more before departure. 25% fee charged if canceled less than 14 days before departure. Tickets on unreserved services incur 25% fee if canceled an hour or more after purchase.
Your ticket is refundable (with no admin fee) if the service you planned to travel on is delayed or cancelled, and you choose not to travel. If you choose to travel on another day not covered by your original ticket, there is no admin fee to get a refund and rebook your ticket.

Contact Amtrak as soon as you know you will miss it. If you are processed as a no show, you forfeight your fare. You can call or text 800 872 7245 and they can put you on the next available train. Change fees are currently waived, but if there is a difference in ticket price you will need to pay the difference.

Advance Single ticketAdvance Single tickets cannot be refunded but they can be changed. Changes are only allowed for a different time/date of travel, so you need to stick to the same departure and arrival stations.
Advance tickets are great value, and ideal for saving money on long journeys. They must be bought in advance and are only valid on the date and train specified. All Advance tickets are for single journeys, but you can combine tickets to create your whole journey, including your return.
