Can dogs go to the Badlands?

Pets are prohibited from hiking trails, public buildings (i.e. visitor centers), and backcountry areas, including the Badlands Wilderness Area, and areas with prairie dog colonies. Pet etiquette dictates always cleaning up animal waste and disposing of it in trash receptacles.

The park is one of the only dog-friendly attractions in the Black Hills. Leashed and well-behaved dogs are welcome in all areas except the Safari Room. Pets are not allowed below the canyon rim On the South Rim, leashed pets are allowed on trails above the rim. Inner canyon trails are narrow, include steep sections, and are well-traveled by humans, mules, and wildlife. Pets can be unpredictable on the trail.

In Yosemite Valley, dogs are allowed on any paved or boardwalk trail including Bridalveil Fall, Lower Yosemite Fall Loop and Cook's Meadow. However, Horsetail Falls Trail is only for human visitors. Don't forget to bring plastic bags to pick up after your pet.

At Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, leashed pets are permitted in picnic areas, campgrounds, and parking lots, on paths to overlooks, and along roads currently open to vehicles.
