Can hotel key cards go in water?

Put it in a Ziploc bag in your pocket, or just in your pocket (assuming you have a pocket). Water should not hurt a metal key or keycard. I have it in the pockets in my shorts, phone, stuff, book, leave it pool side on the lounge chair.
