As of early 2026, Ryanair does not accept a driving license as a valid form of identification for international travel to Ireland. Following significant changes in February 2026, Ryanair and other major carriers now strictly require a valid Passport or a National Identity Card for almost all routes, including those between the UK and Ireland. While the "Common Travel Area" (CTA) between the UK and Ireland technically allows for free movement without a passport for citizens, airlines have the right to set their own more restrictive ID requirements for boarding. Ryanair has historically been one of the most rigid in this regard, refusing driving licenses for any flight crossing an international border. For 2026 travelers, this means even if you are an Irish citizen flying from London to Dublin, you must present a passport or an Irish Passport Card. Only on domestic flights within the UK (such as London to Manchester) or certain domestic Irish routes might other forms of photo ID be considered, but for any Ryanair flight to the Republic of Ireland, a passport is the only safe bet.
