Can I get Marriott points if I book for someone else?

No, you must personally stay in the Room and pay for the Room in order to earn Marriott Bonvoy® Points and Elite Night Credit.

Generally, no; you only earn Marriott Bonvoy points and Elite Night Credits for rooms that you personally stay in and pay for. According to 2026 policy, even if you pay for a friend's room with your credit card, you will not receive the points unless your name is on the reservation and you are a registered guest in that room. However, there is a "Multiple Room" exception: if you stay at a hotel and book up to three rooms in your name (including your own), you can earn points for all three rooms, provided you pay for all of them and stay in one. You will only receive Elite Night Credit for the room you personally occupy. If you wish to "gift" a stay, the best method is to "Transfer Points" to the other person's account (up to 100,000 per year) or use the "Gift an Award Stay" feature, which allows you to book a room for someone else using your points by calling Marriott Member Support directly.
