Can I request a certain Lyft driver?

While you're unable to request a specific driver, car, or type of car, there are different ride types available to meet your travel needs.

As of early 2026, the standard Lyft app does not allow you to request a specific driver for an on-demand ride. The system is designed to pair you with the closest available driver to ensure the fastest possible pickup time. However, there is a "Preferred Driver" feature in some markets where, if you rate a driver 5 stars, the system may prioritize matching you with them again if they happen to be nearby when you request a future ride. For scheduled rides, some high-end services or "Lyft Black" options have experimented with "favorite" driver lists, but for the vast majority of 2026 users, the pairing remains automated. If you specifically want a certain person to drive you, your best bet is to use a private car service or coordinate a "Scheduled Ride" while they are online, though there is still no guarantee the algorithm will assign them to you.
