Can I share my Railcard on Trainline? The Railcard is associated to only the email address it was purchased under and it can be shown on the account holders Trainline App. The Railcard can not be shown on the other cardholders account, but we hope that doesn't matter as you both need to travel together anyway.


Can I put my Railcard on my phone wallet?

Digital Railcards are stored within the Railcard app on your smart phone or tablet, meaning there's no need to carry the physical card around with you. They can be stored on up to two devices and used quicker than plastic Railcards as they do not need to be sent in the post.


Are railcards only digital now?

Most Railcards can be purchased online with the option to download as a digital Railcard to your smartphone or device with our Railcard App. Some 1-year Railcards can also be purchased at any National Rail staffed ticket office.


Can I use my Railcard for my wife?

Yes. As long as either you (as the main Railcard holder) or the second named Railcard holder is travelling with a child, up to a total of four adults and four children travelling together can get discounts.


What is the difference between family and friends Railcard and two together railcard?

The Two Together Railcard is for two adults (people aged 16 or over) travelling together. It gives no discount on child fares. If you are an adult travelling with a child then the Family & Friends Railcard is the Railcard you need.


Can two people use the same Railcard?

The Railcard is for use by you and the second named adult on your Railcard when you are travelling together. The two named cardholders must travel together for the entire journey for their discounted tickets to be valid.


Can you share a Railcard with someone on Trainline?

Do all railcards need a photo?

Under 'Choose the type of Railcard you would like' you can select if you want a 'Digital' or a 'Plastic' Railcard. You will be asked to provide a digital passport-style photo if you select 'Digital'. You do not need a photo if you have ordered a 'Plastic' Network Railcard.


How strict are Railcard photos?

Your head and shoulders should be in close-up, with your face clearly visible and filling approximately 70% of the frame (in the same way it would for a passport or driving licence). The image must be in sharp focus. Please make sure that your face is not obscured by hats or hair.


Does Railcard check ID?

You will be asked to provide either a passport or driving licence number or EEA National Identity Card and you will also need to provide a digital passport-style photo if you have selected 'Digital' under 'Choose the type of Railcard you would like' section.


Is my Railcard linked to my Oyster?

To link your Oyster card and railcard, you need to take your Oyster card and your railcard to an Underground station, Overground ticket office or some National Rail ticket offices and ask the clerk to add your discount entitlement to your Oyster card. It will be valid until the expiry of the railcard.


How do I add family and friends railcard to Trainline app?

If you have already purchased a digital Family & Friends Railcard, you should have received an email which contains a download code. You will use this download code to add your digital Family & Friends Railcard on your phone or device.


How do I prove I have a Railcard?

If you bought your Railcard at a station, both the paper printed Railcard and the photocard must be presented. Failure to present a valid Railcard will mean you have to pay a full fare or you may on certain services be liable for a Penalty Fare.


Can I use a screenshot of my Railcard?

Screenshots of eTickets can't be used to travel.


Do they check railcards on train?

A: Yes. You must show your valid Railcard when you buy your ticket. You also need to have your Railcard with you on each journey and present it to staff when your ticket is checked aboard the train.
