Can I sleep in my car in Arches National Park?

You cannot sleep in your car at Arches National Park unless you have a reserved campsite at the Devils Garden Campground, which is the only designated campground within the park. Sleeping in your car outside of a designated campsite or parking area is not permitted.

Permits. You must have a permit for all overnight stays in the backcountry. Backpacking permits are no longer issued at Arches Visitor Center. We now issue permits in person at the Backcountry Permit Office two miles south of Moab up to seven days before the trip start date.

An entrance fee is required at both Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and admission is good for seven days. Safe Places to Sleep in Your Car. Depending on the location and intended length of your stay, you can choose from several safe parking options when sleeping in a car. Rest stops, parks, or parking programs with designated lots may serve as safe places to park overnight.

There are no lodging or dining facilities in the park. Canyonlands has two campgrounds, one at The Needles and one at Island in the Sky. The policy of Walmart welcomes RVers to spend a night in their parking lot, as long as you have the individual location's permission. In some places, city zoning laws or ordinances will prohibit overnight stays in parking lots. Typically, larger cities are most likely to have these types of restrictions in place.
