Can I travel with my Dyson hair dryer?

That being said, please keep in mind that currently we don't recommend traveling overseas with the Dyson Supersonic™ hairdryer as they are intended for use only in the country where they're sold due to possible voltage differences, and adapters and converters aren't recommended.

Traveling with a Dyson Supersonic hair dryer requires some caution, specifically regarding voltage. Dyson hair dryers are not "dual voltage." This means if you have a 110-120V model (standard in the US and Canada) and you try to use it in a 220-240V country (like the UK, Europe, or Australia) with just a plug adapter, you will likely fry the motor and permanently ruin the device. Even heavy-duty voltage converters often fail to handle the high wattage required by the Dyson. If you are traveling within your own voltage zone, it is perfectly safe to pack in your checked or carry-on luggage. However, for international trips to different voltage regions, Dyson generally recommends leaving the dryer at home. Many people find it safer to use the hotel's dryer or buy a cheap local one rather than risking a $400 piece of technology.

If you're traveling with a hair dryer on a plane, you can bring it in either your carry-on or checked bag. Hair dryers are considered a personal care item and can be brought on board with you. However, if you're packing your hair dryer in your checked bag, make sure you turn it off before putting it in the bag.
