The Clipper card is a smart, contactless travel card that can be used all over the Sasn Francisco Bay Area. Travelers, both residents and tourists, can add value to their card either as they go or automatically, depending on what works best for them.
Plastic Clipper CardsAll stations have Clipper vending machines, except SFO where only paper tickets are sold as of October 2022. Funds are immediately available when added using a vending machine at BART. There is a one-time $3 fee to purchase a plastic Clipper card from a BART station vending machine.
Note: Customers do not need to tag out of Muni Metro to exit. Fare gates have motion sensors and will open automatically. Simply walk through. This may be different from other transit services like BART and Caltrain, which do require customers to tag out.
BART/Muni Adult A Fast Pass®The A Fast Pass is available on the Clipper card and is valid for a calendar month and lets you take unlimited rides on SFMTA/Muni vehicles and BART between the Embarcadero station to Balboa Park station in San Francisco.
In celebration of BART's upcoming 50th anniversary on September 11, BART is offering a 50% discount for the entire month of September 2022. The reduced fare will be automatically deducted when using Clipper at the fare gates.
