Anything goes in Positano, but if you want to be one with the Italians, casual is the way to go. We went to a few nicer restaurants where people were dressed up more, but for the most part, light linens, maxi dresses with flats and casual outfits are most fitting for this gorgeous beach town.
When it comes to dressing for this glamorous coastline, the usual beach holiday attire – logo tees, flip flops and denim cut-offs – isn't going to cut it. Instead, it's best to err on the side of smart and embrace classic Italian style – think sophisticated linens, silk scarves and classic sunglasses.
You might find a lot of people say Positano is better than Amalfi as Positano appears to have nicer beaches, more restaurants, and shops. Positano also has some of the best scenic views. You'll want to show off to everyone with your view of colourful cliffside homes, blue sea, and beaches.
Waiters. A tip (as a percentage of your total meal bill OR a per meal amount) is appreciated, but not expected. If we are staying somewhere and have the same waiter throughout our stay, we leave a tip at the end of our last meal (recommended).
Positano also offers shopping galore and very good restaurants. Some say Positano has better beaches than Amalfi, but if you're used to beautiful sandy beaches, you won't be impressed with any beach on the Amalfi Coast. They are black sand and very pebbly (rocky). Beaches in Amalfi are equally so.

To dress in Italy, opt for clothes with clean lines that fit you well, like button-down shirts for men and capri pants for women. Additionally, choose classy shoes such as boots or ballet flats, since Italians generally frown on wearing things like flip flops in public.
It is totally doable in summertime because it's very warm so layers are light. Shorts, sun dresses and sandals that can go from day to night with accessories is the way to go! Comfortable shoes are a must-a versatile sneaker, a slide sandal are pretty much all you need.
The locals are welcoming and friendly, and the area has a low crime rate. However, as with any location, it's important to be aware of your surroundings and take precautions to stay safe. Avoid walking alone late at night and stick to well-lit areas.
We felt that 2 days in Positano was enough to see it all, but if you love to just lounge around on the beach for days (we aren't huge lay on the beach all day type of people), you may want to stay longer!
