Can my spouse use my Marriott free night?

You can only use your Marriott Bonvoy® Points to Gift an Award Redemption Reservation to another Guest You cannot use a Free Night Award Certificate to book a Room for another Guest.

In 2026, Marriott Bonvoy rules explicitly state that Free Night Award Certificates are non-transferable and cannot be used to book a room for someone else if the account holder is not present. While you can use your points to book a "Gifted Award Redemption" for your spouse by calling Marriott Customer Support, this flexibility does not extend to certificates earned through credit cards or promotions. The member whose name is on the certificate must be the primary guest on the reservation and must be physically present at check-in with a valid ID. Attempting to book a stay for your spouse using your certificate without staying there yourself is a violation of the program's terms and could result in the hotel charging the "Rack Rate" (full cash price) for the room or even a suspension of your Bonvoy account. If you want your spouse to have their own free nights, the most effective strategy is for them to open their own Marriott co-branded credit card to earn their own annual certificates.
