Two people can "share" the benefits of an American Express Platinum card, but they cannot literally use the same physical card or account number simultaneously for their own independent spending without being added as an Authorized User. The primary cardholder can add another person (such as a spouse, partner, or child) as an "Additional Card Member." In 2026, adding an additional Platinum Card carries a significant annual fee (typically around $195 per card), but it grants that second person their own metal card and most of the "heavy hitter" benefits, such as their own Global Lounge Collection access (including Centurion Lounges and Priority Pass), their own Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit, and their own elite status at Marriott and Hilton hotels. Without adding them as an authorized user, a companion can still "share" benefits if they are traveling with the primary cardholder, as the Platinum card allows for two guests in many lounges. However, if they are traveling alone, they will not be able to access these perks or earn points on their own spending unless they have their own authorized card linked to the primary account.
