Can you bring a lightsaber on a plane?

Checked Bags: Yes Sadly, the technology doesn't currently exist to create a real lightsaber. However, you can pack a toy lightsaber in your carry-on or checked bag.

According to the TSA (and major airlines like Delta and United), you can absolutely bring a lightsaber on a plane in both carry-on and checked luggage. Because they are considered "toy" items, they are not viewed as weapons. If you are carrying a high-end saber from Disney's Savi’s Workshop, it is recommended to carry it in its padded sheath. Most passengers prefer carry-on to ensure the delicate electronics and blade aren't damaged by baggage handlers. One critical tip for 2026: if your saber uses a lithium-ion battery, the FAA requires it to be in your carry-on bag rather than checked, as these batteries are a fire hazard in the cargo hold. Always be prepared for a TSA officer to ask you to "ignite" it during screening to verify it is indeed a harmless toy.
