Can you carry a knife in Florida?

Open Carry Knife Laws in Florida Open carry of a deadly weapon, including a non-utility knife with a blade longer than four inches, is permitted for anyone over 18 in Florida. If your knife is legal to own in Florida — anything other than a ballistic knife — then you may openly carry it on your person.

As of early 2026, Florida law allows for the open carry of most knives (except ballistic knives) for anyone over 18. Regarding concealed carry, as of the July 2023 "permitless carry" update, individuals 21 and over can carry a concealed weapon, including knives, without a permit. However, there is a legal grey area: "common pocket knives" (usually defined as having a blade under 4 inches) are almost always legal to conceal, but carrying a fixed-blade or tactical knife over 4 inches concealed can still be classified as carrying a "deadly weapon" and may lead to charges if used unlawfully. Knives are strictly prohibited in "sensitive" areas such as schools, courthouses, polling places, and inside airport passenger terminals beyond the security checkpoints.
