Can you do a day trip to Lake Como from Verona?

With this private full day tour you will travel from the beautiful city of Verona and discover the more beautiful sights of Lake Como, the lake surrounded by numerous mountain peaks. Visit Como, Bellagio and Varenna: private transport, lunch and boat tour included!

While possible, a day trip to Lake Como from Verona is ambitious and involves a lot of transit. The fastest route involves taking a high-speed "Frecciarossa" train from Verona Porta Nuova to Milan Central (50–70 minutes), then transferring to a regional train to Varenna-Esino (another 60 minutes). Total one-way travel time, including the transfer, is roughly 2.5 to 3 hours. If you leave Verona at 7:00 AM, you can be at the lake by 10:00 AM, giving you 6–7 hours to explore Varenna and Bellagio via ferry before needing to head back. It is a long day with at least 5 to 6 hours spent on trains. For a more relaxed experience, most travelers prefer a day trip to Lake Garda from Verona instead, as it is only 15 minutes away by train. However, if your heart is set on Como, the "Varenna" arrival point makes it logistically feasible for a "snapshot" visit of the central lake area.
