Can you do Safari Park and San Diego Zoo in one day?
The distance is about 35 miles. I don't recommend that you try to visit both parks on the same day. If you are short on time during your San Diego vacation, I would choose one or the other.

Although one can easily enjoy a full day or more at both parks, to visitors with limited time we recommend a minimum of three to four hours to see some of the Zoo and a minimum of four to six hours to experience a portion of the Safari Park.

The San Diego Zoo is located in Balboa Park so it tends to be easier for visitors to get to — especially if you are not renting a car. There are a lot of animals in the Zoo and I think you can experience most of the Zoo in 4–6 hours. I do recommend taking the guided bus tour.

The generally accepted definition of a safari park is a drive-through park. Wild Animal Park or San Diego's version of a Safari Park does not provide that option, however, so the name change makes the zoo unique in an odd sort of way.
