Technically, a demagnetized card cannot be "re-magnetized" or fixed once the data on the magnetic stripe has been scrambled or erased by a strong magnetic field. The stripe works by aligning tiny iron-based particles in a specific pattern; once that pattern is disrupted, the original data is lost. However, there are temporary "life hacks" often discussed, such as placing a piece of clear adhesive tape over the stripe. This creates a tiny gap between the stripe and the card reader’s head, which can sometimes help the reader ignore "noise" from a damaged stripe and focus on the remaining signal. While this might work for a one-time emergency at a grocery store or an older hotel lock, it is not a permanent solution. For credit cards, security badges, or transit passes, the only reliable fix is to contact the issuer and request a replacement card.
