We think one day in Bryce Canyon is just about the right amount of time to see the highlights of the park. It's a relatively small park, so there's really not that much to do and see. Bryce Canyon Scenic Drive – which is the main thoroughfare through the park – is only 19 miles long (one way).
Use of remote-controlled equipment (including but not limited to helicopters, drones, and other aircraft-based equipment) within Zion National Park is prohibited. For more information visit the NPS Unmanned Aircraft webpage.
If you fly a drone in an NPS-administered park, you risk interfering with the flora and fauna of the location. You can also disturb park visitors, hikers, bikers, camping tourists, etc. Drone pilots caught breaking the rules will be fined $5,000 and risk up to six months in jail.
Unfortunately, you cannot put your plan into action. National Parks were classified as “no drone” zones in 2014. And flying here means stiff penalties. For drone pilots, this is a huge missed opportunity — the NPS controls some 417 parks, 23 trails, and 60 rivers.
You can not fly with any UAS in a national park unless you got your P.107/Drone Pilot license, a permit and a waiver from the FAA. Other than that, without the waiver and permit you can NOT fly in a national park at all.
That depends on the type of experience you are looking for. If you're interested in exploring the unique hoodoos, Bryce Canyon National Park is the better option, as it offers a variety of trails and viewpoints. On the other hand, Zion National Park has more adventurous hikes and back-country opportunities.
Bryce Canyon offers various night sky programs and activities, including Night Sky Telescope Programs (Memorial Day through Labor Day) and Full Moon Hikes.
The great thing about Bryce is there's something for everyone: from easy flat trails along the rim to epic adventures inside the canyon itself. If you're fanatical about hiking like us then you'll be happy to know that with just a few days you can actually hike virtually every single one of them!
