Can you go outside on a DFDS ferry?

Our routes include crossings from Dover to Calais and Dunkirk, as well as Newhaven to Dieppe, all with comfortable onboard facilities so you can really relax and enjoy the journey. Enjoy a bite to eat and take the kids to the soft play area or even explore outside on deck.

Yes, you can absolutely go outside on a DFDS ferry, and it is often the highlight of the journey. Most DFDS vessels, whether you are sailing from Dover to Calais or on the overnight Amsterdam to Newcastle route, feature expansive, multi-level exterior observation decks. These areas allow passengers to enjoy panoramic sea views, watch the ship maneuver into port, and get some fresh air. On the longer overnight crossings, the outdoor decks often include seating areas and sometimes "Sky Bars" that open during the summer months, allowing you to enjoy a drink while watching the sunset over the North Sea. Safety is a priority, so the outer decks are surrounded by high railings, though they may be temporarily closed to passengers during exceptionally heavy weather or high winds for safety reasons. For photographers and nature lovers, these decks are the best place to spot marine life or capture the iconic White Cliffs of Dover as you depart or arrive.
