Can you go to Universal Studios Japan without knowing Japanese?

There are some attractions, such as the terminator one, that require understanding Japanese, as it is live, but for the most part the reception should be trained to speak at least bare minimum English, attractions should have english alongside, and the food stalls should have english menus.

You can absolutely enjoy Universal Studios Japan (USJ) in Osaka without knowing any Japanese. The park is a major international destination, and English signage is everywhere, from the entrance gates to the menus in themed restaurants. Most major attractions, including those in Super Nintendo World and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, feature English subtitles or visual cues that make the storylines easy to follow. While the live shows and character greetings are primarily in Japanese, the physical comedy and high-tech effects translate globally. For 2026, it is highly recommended to download the official USJ app, which is available in English and allows you to track wait times and secure the mandatory "Timed Entry Tickets" for popular areas without needing to speak to a single staff member.

Seriously speaking, this theme park seemed to cater only to locals (Japanese). Although there are Guide Maps and signs in English, most of the park's staff have minimal or zero command of English. (I cannot compare this to Tokyo Disneyland, as I had forgotten whether the crew there speaks English.)

Avoid visiting the park during the weekend; you will spend most of the time waiting in line, and that's not fun. Friday, Saturdays, Sundays, and any holidays are insanely crowded. Monday is a popular time for school trips. The best days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
