Can you request the same Lyft driver?

While you're unable to request a specific driver, car, or type of car, there are different ride types available to meet your travel needs.

As of early 2026, the Lyft app does not offer a direct feature that allows a standard rider to "request" a specific driver by name for an on-demand trip. Lyft's dispatch algorithm is designed to match riders with the closest available driver to ensure the fastest possible pickup times. However, for scheduled rides in certain markets, Lyft has experimented with a "Preferred Driver" program where riders can see a list of drivers they have previously rated five stars and request them for a future scheduled trip. If you have a specific driver you trust, your best option is to use a third-party scheduling service or ask them if they use a specialized "concierge" app. In most cases, if you want to ensure you get the same person, you would need to exchange contact information privately and coordinate through a pre-arranged schedule outside of the main on-demand app interface.
