When you are in the parks, there are some attractions that have pull down bars that rest on your waist, so you may find it more comfortable to remove it and store it beside you or on the floor of the ride.

I've worn both. I wear fanny packs/bumbags as sling bags - they will usually have you remove a fanny pack if it's actually around your waist, for a ride (they'll have you remove a backpack as well, or any bag that is between you and a lap bar). It's really not inconvenience though.

I use this fanny pack and then just get a collapsible water bottle that I can refill around the parks when needed. It is plenty big enough to keep my phone, water bottle, all my family's magicbands, portable charger, wallet, sunscreen, poncho, etc. You would be surprised how much you can fit in there.
