Can you see the northern lights in Bar Harbor Maine?

We see a good display here on the coast of Maine maybe once every five years or so. Very hard to predict. Activity occurs in an eleven year cycle. There needs to be all three: a strong solar flare, a solar wind to bring it this far south of the Van Allen belt, and a clear night of local weather.

Fortunately, they occur frequently. The northern lights are happening 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, said photographer Chad Blakely, owner of the northern lights tour company Lights Over Lapland. But that doesn't mean they're easy to spot; you need to be at the right place at the right time.
