Can you stay the night at the Grand Canyon?

Tent and RV camping is available all year in Grand Canyon Village, and seasonally at Desert View. Make reservations well in advance. All visitor services including, overnight lodging, food/beverage and retail shops are available through October 15, 2023. Inside the park.

Can You Camp in Your Car in the Grand Canyon? Yes, the National Park Service allows you to sleep in your car inside the park, but you still need to reserve a campsite. You cannot just sleep in your car in a parking lot, for example.

Permits for all overnight backcountry use must be obtained through the Backcountry Information Center at Grand Canyon National Park. The highest temperatures are found at the lowest elevations inside the canyon. Low relative humidity and generally clear skies mean that most of the sun's energy is available for daytime heating. These same conditions lead to rapid heat loss at night.

The best times to visit the Grand Canyon are March through May and September through November, when daytime temperatures are cool and crowds are thin. If you decide to visit during the summer (the park's peak season), be prepared for hordes of tourists and very limited lodging availability.

Camping at the Bottom of Grand Canyon Camping underneath Grand Canyon is one of the unique experiences in America. Bright Angel camping ground provides drinking water and a toilet. Backcountry camping is also allowed for more rugged places; however, you will have to provide permits.

To camp overnight anywhere inside Grand Canyon you must first obtain a permit from the Backcountry Information Center. Restaurants and groceries are available on the South Rim in Grand Canyon Village and Desert View —and on the North Rim during their season.
