Can you still go out to USS Arizona?

The National Park Service (NPS) in partnership with Pacific Historic Parks offers daily programs that include a movie about the December 7th, 1941 Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and a boat ride to the USS Arizona Memorial. The Boat tours start at 8:00 am and go through 3:30pm daily.

Although there are 1,300 free tickets available daily, due to high demand there are often more people than free tickets and not everyone gets to visit the USS Arizona Memorial that day. For this reason, we encourage booking a guided tour. Guided tours include guaranteed tickets to the USS Arizona Memorial.

One of the 14-inch gun tubes being removed from USS ARIZONA in May 1942. One question still haunts visitors to the Arizona Memorial even to this day. Why were the dead not removed? Initially, about 105 bodies were removed but because the ship was never raised, the remainder could not.

In the 70+ years since that have passed since, the USS Arizona has slowly been deteriorating away, it will eventually decay completely away. As such, the ship is not structurally sound enough to raise and would disintegrate if the attempt were actually attempted.

Uniformed military visitors will be required to have Class “B” dress or better to board the shuttle to the USS Arizona. You are not permitted to wear battle dress uniforms on the USS Arizona. You are also free to dress as a civilian on your Pearl Harbor visit.
