The Free Beach at Marina GrandeMarina Grande's free beach is next to the ticket office for the high speed ferry to the mainland. Though the beach is near the port, the water is always clean. Though the beach is lovely, it tends to get very crowded in high season!

Many visitors wait until after 5:30 p.m. when the rowboats leave and the ticket office closes to swim inside. This is illegal and dangerous, as the high waves can slam swimmers against the stone of the low cave mouth.
If you would like to take a dip in the grotto, visit during the hottest hours at midday so the water is comfortably warm. On days with high winds and rough seas, it may be impossible to swim into the grotto.
It was incredible & so worth it! We waited about 5 minutes & were ready to go! Roberto truly made the experience because he knew so much about the cave & was so passionate about it. So many fun facts & seeing things in the rocks was amazing too.
The magnificent blue water in the Blue Grotto looks perfect to swim in. But swimming inside the Blue Grotto has been forbidden for a few years now. It isn't recommended to swim inside because of how dangerous it can get. If you're caught swimming in the Blue Grotto, you will receive a fine.
