Can you take small bags on rides at Universal?

Most of these rides allow you to safely store items that can fit in your pocket or small fanny pack that can tuck under your shirt. However, all other large items (purses, camera bags, backpacks, etc.) must go inside the ride locker.

At Universal Orlando Resort in 2026, the policy for bags on rides is strictly divided into two categories based on the attraction's intensity. For "family-friendly" rides like The Cat in the Hat or E.T. Adventure, you can typically take small bags or backpacks onto the vehicle with you. however, for high-thrill coasters such as VelociCoaster, The Incredible Hulk Coaster, and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, no bags or loose items are permitted. Universal provides complimentary lockers near these attractions for the duration of your ride. Some "mid-tier" rides allow small waist packs (fanny packs) if they have a three-prong buckle, but generally, if a ride has significant drops or inversions, you will be required to stow all bags in a locker before entering the queue.

For most of the rides, you'll likely be able to just leave the bag around your waist, but for the ones that have a lap bar or over the shoulder harness that would make that uncomfortable, you'll be able to either keep your bag in a small storage area or just down at your feet.

On a thrill scale of 0 to 10 (with 0 being wimpy and 10 being yikes!), we think the Hagrid coaster rates a 6.5, possibly a 7 because of the vertical drop. It is somewhat extreme, but not as extreme as many other coasters.
