In the current iteration of the Uber app, the interface is designed to prompt for a rating and a tip simultaneously; however, it is entirely possible to tip your driver without providing a star rating. When the ride ends, the "Rate your driver" screen appears. If you wish to skip the rating, you can simply close the app or navigate away. Later, you can go into your "Activity" or "Your Trips" history, select the specific ride, and choose the "Add a tip" option. This allows the financial transaction to occur independently of the feedback system. Many riders prefer this if they are in a hurry or if they feel the rating system is too subjective but still want to compensate the driver for their time and effort. It is worth noting that if you choose not to rate, the driver's overall average remains unaffected, but they will still receive 100% of the gratuity you provide. Uber has made these steps more modular to reduce "review fatigue" while ensuring drivers still have the opportunity to earn extra income for excellent service.
