Can you transfer Avios points to Emirates?

Unfortunately, you cannot use British Airways frequent flyer points on Emirates. We only support our own Skywards program, and Qantas Frequent Flyers program. Is British airways a good airline?

Excellent question. The short answer is no, you cannot directly transfer Avios points to Emirates Skywards miles.

However, there are several important connections and workarounds you should know about, as both programs are part of the same broader alliance and family.

Here’s a detailed breakdown:

1. Direct Transfers Are Not Possible

Avios is the loyalty currency of the oneworld alliance airlines (British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Qatar Airways, etc.). Emirates Skywards is the program for Emirates, which is not a member of any major global alliance. Therefore, their points systems are not directly linked for transfers.

2. The Key Connection: Qatar Airways

This is the most important indirect route. Both British Airways (an Avios collector) and Emirates are partners with Qatar Airways (a oneworld member). You can transfer Avios to Qatar Airways Avios (they use the same currency) at a 1:1 ratio, usually instantly and for free, if both accounts are linked in the same Avios.com account. Qatar Airways Avios can be transferred to Emirates Skywards. According to Qatar’s website, you can convert Qatar Avios to Emirates miles at a ratio of 1 Qatar Avios = 0.6 Emirates Skywards Miles, plus a fee.

The Path: Your Avios → Qatar Avios (1:1) → Emirates Miles (1:0.6) Important: This involves a significant loss in value (you lose 40% in the final step) and likely a transfer fee. It is rarely a good value proposition unless you have
