Disney Genie+ is now officially called Lightning Lane Multi Pass, and individual ride purchases are called Lightning Lane Single Pass. You can absolutely use a Lightning Lane Single Pass without purchasing the Multi Pass (formerly Genie+). This "Single Pass" option is reserved for the most in-demand attractions, such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance or TRON Lightcycle / Run, which are not included in the main Multi Pass bundle. You simply purchase the specific arrival window for that one ride via the My Disney Experience or Disneyland app. This flexibility is ideal for guests who only care about one specific headliner attraction and do not wish to pay for the full daily Multi Pass service. However, for most other attractions, the only way to access the Lightning Lane queue is through the purchase of the daily Multi Pass.
