In the TAP app, sign in or create a TAP account. In the Cards section, press the add card icon at the top left. Press “Add a TAP Card on Your Phone.” Follow the prompts to add a “virtual” TAP card to your phone to use it to tap and pay.
The regular fare remains $1.75 with two hours of free transfers. No one will pay more than $5 a day to ride or $18 in a seven day period— after you reach the 1-day and 7-day caps, you can continue to ride free.

We encourage all our cash-paying riders to get a TAP card. Load Stored Value (money) on a TAP card to pay per ride. (Metro base fare for buses and trains remains $1.75 and includes two hours of free one-way transfers on Metro with each paid ride.) Once you reach your 1-Day or 7-Day cap, your rides are FREE!
