It's easy. Simply tap your card on the TAP target of the bus farebox/validator or station turnstile/validator.The validator will “beep” and display a confirmation that your card is valid. You are now free to board the bus or train.
Tapping to pay uses short-range wireless technology to make secure payments between a contactless card or payment-enabled mobile/wearable device and a contactless-enabled checkout terminal. When you tap your card or device near the Contactless Symbol, your payment is sent for authorization.
If you don't already have a TAP card, tap on the add card icon at the top left and select Add a TAP Card. Go through the prompts to select your desired card and make payment. When boarding, just wave your phone near the TAP dial and your fare will be deducted.

An extensive network of over 165 bus routes serves the county. Fare can be paid using cash (exact change) or a TAP card. Regular fare is $1.75 and is good for 2 hrs of unlimited transfers in one direction.
The fare is only 50 cents a ride with cash, 35 cents with a TAP card, 25 cents for seniors and the disabled. Access cardholders, Cityride cardholders, and students with a Metro Reduced Fare TAP card travel free.
Unfortunately, the LA Metro system does not run 24/7! Most trains run from 4 a.m. until midnight or 1 a.m. on Sunday – Thursday, and all lines (including the Orange and Silver Line Busways) run until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
