Can you walk along Cambridge backs?

However, one does not simply walk along the backs. The land is privately owned by each of the colleges and there is no tow-path along the route of the river. The closest you can get, on foot at least, is by walking along the Queens' road.

Some of the backs are only accessible if you are a student attending the college or have paid for a visitors pass but there are paths to follow which take you around the backs and back into the city centre.

A day out at the colleges can be an affordable way to get to know the city as although some charge a small fee, most allow visitors to enter for free. The Colleges offer limited hours during exams and are sometimes closed for a concert or other event, so make sure you check the website before you head for a tour.

A Classic Cambridge Walk from the Millpond out to the picturesque village of Grantchester along the River Cam, via The Meadows and back.
