Can you walk halfway across the Rainbow Bridge?

If you are driving, a U-turn to go back might be difficult (if not impossible). Helpful? Even if you only walk halfway across the bridge and back you will still have to go through US Customs to exit the bridge. The entrance to the bridge is gated and prevents people from walking back through.
