Can you walk to the beach from Block Island Ferry?

Block Island's water is beautiful and very clear for New England. Ballard's has a big patio for eating, and every once in a while, waiters come around to take food and drink orders. The beach is pretty crowded, but so convenient being a five-minute walk from the ferry.
