Can you watch launches from Playalinda Beach?

Kennedy Space Center has the authority to close parts of the seashore for Space Center Operations. Playalinda Beach offers the closest view of the launches. It is recommended to be in the park a few hours early if possible.

Playalinda Beach, located within the Canaveral National Seashore, is one of the most popular and "closest" public vantage points for viewing rocket launches from the Kennedy Space Center, particularly those from Launch Complex 39A and 39B. However, there is a major catch: because of its proximity to the pads, the beach is frequently closed for safety reasons during major launches, especially for large rockets like SpaceX’s Starship or NASA’s SLS. For smaller Falcon 9 or Atlas V launches, the beach often remains open, but access is limited by the park’s operating hours (usually 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM or 8:00 PM depending on the season). In 2026, with the increased frequency of launches, the National Park Service often reaches capacity within minutes of opening on launch days. If a launch is scheduled outside of park hours, the gates will not open early, making it a "daytime-only" viewing spot. Always check the Canaveral National Seashore's official alerts before driving out.
