It depends on what you find comfortable, flips flops also good on water rides as they dry fast, also I find sneakers, trainers too hot when we are there July/August, . You can wear flip flops but with some of the coasters, it's really not too smart because you take the chance of losing them.
You can wear flip flops, but people have lost them on the rides. The water rides give you a cubby to put your items in. They also have lockers for items, but they're kindof expensive.
Make sure you've got strong swimmers if you plan to do the Ohno and Ohyah drop slides. These two body slides plunge into a 10-foot-deep pool! Volcano Bay does not provide any free towels, so be sure to bring your own if you do not want to rent them (it costs $7).

Bring a dry stash of clothes or a towel. Some people (aka, ME) have been known to dry off (as if that was even possible) with the hand dryers and paper towels/tissues in the girls room. That was awkward. Think ahead and stash a set of clothes in one of those trusty waterproof zip top bags!
While on the subject of sandals, lets bring up Crocs. These things can be incredibly uncomfortable on your feet at a theme park due to the heat and water/sweat combination. Blisters, anyone? Crocs are comfortable wearing around the house and maybe to the grocery store, but not at a theme park for hours on end.
