At Disney's Typhoon Lagoon (and Blizzard Beach), the rules regarding footwear on slides are quite specific for safety and maintenance reasons. Generally, you are permitted to wear water shoes (aqua socks) on most body slides and raft rides, provided they do not have any exposed metal parts, buckles, zippers, or sharp rivets that could scratch the slide surface. However, for some of the more "high-speed" or intense vertical body slides, such as Humunga Kowabunga, life guards may ask you to remove your shoes and hold them against your chest while you go down. Standard flip-flops and sandals are usually not allowed on the slides themselves; you will need to leave them in the "shoe cubbies" or racks located at the entrance of the attraction. Wearing water shoes is highly recommended for your day at the park, as the Florida sun can make the concrete walkways and stairs leading up to the slides extremely hot, even with the cooling water sprayers Disney installs along the paths.
