Do babies fly free on Spirit?

A child under two years old (24 months) can travel for free as long as the infant will be on the lap of another passenger for the flight.

On Spirit Airlines in 2026, babies fly for "free" only if they are traveled as lap children. This applies to infants between the ages of 7 days and 2 years old. While you don't pay a "base fare" for a lap child on domestic flights, you may still be responsible for certain taxes and fees, especially on international routes to the Caribbean or Latin America. If you want your baby to have their own seat—which is safer and allows the use of an FAA-approved car seat—you must purchase a full-price ticket for them; Spirit does not offer discounted "infant fares" for seats. Additionally, Spirit allows you to check one stroller and one car seat per child for free at the ticket counter or the gate. If you choose the lap child option, you must still add the infant to your reservation and provide proof of age (like a birth certificate) during check-in to confirm they are under two.
